If drinking your way to an acne cure seems 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲, you may be right!
At DermCafé, we’ve seen an increasing amount of queries about #chlorophyll.
So, we’re breaking it down for you here 👇
What is Chlorophyll?
🌱 Green pigment that plants use to make food in their energy process (photosynthesis)
🌱 Contains antioxidants & vitamins A, C & E
🌱 Has anti-inflammatory properties
🌱 We consume it already in dark, leafy green vegetables, like spinach, parsley or broccoli
Does Chlorophyll work for Acne?
Liquid chlorophyll:
Some clinical studies examine it for anti-inflammation & medicinal uses
No studies prove benefits for acne specifically
Topical chlorophyll:
Small uncontrolled studies suggest positive effects for acne, sebum production, pore size & anti-aging
More so when combined with red & blue light therapy
What’s the Verdict on Chlorophyll?
🌱 So far, liquid & topical chlorophyll lack the same level of science-backed evidence when compared to other proven anti-acne ingredients
🌱 There’s no harm in eating a balanced diet, which includes leafy green vegetables
🌱 It’s unlikely to help with cystic or hormonal acne
