Apply Sunscreen with Makeup: What You Need to Know

The first question that our Dermatologists get a lot: Can you mix foundation with sunscreen?

A Dermatologist's answer: Not really

That's because, the key to a sunscreen working well is that

1️⃣ Its own ingredients are tested and proven together

2️⃣ It forms an even film on the surface of your skin

However, when you mix a random foundation and sunscreen, it makes the sun protection ability unpredictable:

👎 The SPF is diluted

👎 The uneven mixing changes how it spreads, which can cause literal holes in your protective SPF film

👎 And some ingredients can inactivate each other

So, the next question our Dermatologists get asked then is: How do you even reapply sunscreen with makeup on?

Below are 2 options that our Dermatologists use themselves:

1️⃣ 𝐒𝐏𝐅 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐬

🌞 Sometimes called "mists" now. This can be easily applied on-top of your makeup, without messing it up!

🌞 To apply: hold your breath ➡️ spray a thin even layer all over your face ➡️ walk a few steps away ➡️ repeat!

🌞 Your face needs 1/4 teaspoon total of full protection, so that usually means 5-9 sprays

2️⃣ 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐏𝐅 𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭

🌞 Why a lotion? You need something than can spread easily over makeup, and lotions are lighter than the alternatives cream sunscreens

🌞 Start with skin coloured areas, and do make-up-ed areas last, so that you don't spread your makeup around

🌞 SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion SPF 50 is a great SPF lotion option!
